Dear Directors and Ambassadors,

First, let me thank those of you who have responded to my original email below.  I have two quick requests:

·         If you have secured a bottle of wine for the auction, please let me know what you have so I can organize the wines for the auction.  I need to know 1) name of the winery; 2) the varietal (Cabernet, Merlot, etc.) 3) the vintage (year) and 4) the retail price.

·         Jenn is looking for gift cards with a value of $10 or more to use as prizes for bingo at our booth. Please let Jenn know if you have a card(s) you can donate.

Thanks for your help!

Pete

P.S. If you’d like me to buy wine for you, I can still do so, but please email me not later than noon on Wednesday.

(Original message follows)

As most of you well know our wine auctions during our Mid-Year Galas have become a good fund raising source for the Foundation. We need your assistance to make this successful. We’re asking that you bring one or two bottles of wine to the Mid-Year South with a minimum retail value of $25 each. Here are some ideas to help you along.

·         Be sure about the retail value. The best source is a winery’s website. You can check online to get an idea of what the wine may sell for.  See the screen shot attached – I searched for Robert Mondavi Central Coast Cabernet.  You’ll notice that not only was I quoted the price for the central coast wine, but some of their premium cabernets as well. So be careful.

·         Where to shop! Two of the best places to find discounted wine are Bev Mo and Trader Joes. I recently purchased a Girard Napa Cabernet for $24.99 at Trader Joe’s. Girard’s website shows the retail price as $40.00.  We’re not asking that you pay retail price – we’re just asking that the wine retails for $25.00 or more.

·         Look for coupons! You can search online for coupons or go to Bevmo.com and search for their 5 cent sale wines.  I found a number of wines which they sell for $25+ which are a part of their 5 cent sale (second bottle is 5 cents).

·         If you don’t like to/don’t want to shop then you can send me a check and I will purchase wine for you. This is also a good alternative if you’re going to fly into San Diego.

Please keep in mind the key to our success with the wine auction is that attendees who buy a $20 cork are promised they will go home with a wine worth at least $25. Those who buy a $35 cork are promised a bottle with a retail value of $50 or more.  We need your support to keep our attendees excited about our wine auctions.

Finally, I have good news to share about Mid-Year North. The host committee has collected 40+ bottles of wine for our auction we will not have to purchase and/or solicit wine for the auction in San Rosa.

Looking forward to seeing all of you in San Diego at Mid-Year South!

Sincerely,

Pete Horton
