Kiwanis leaders addressed,

It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the passing of John Nichelson, the 1976-1977 Kiwanis Lt. Governor for Division 19. He was 96 and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Gardena Valley since 1968 (51 years!).

He was a true supporter of our Service Leadership Programs. He served as District Administrator to both Key Club and Circle K. Also for Circle K, he was a long-time advisor to the CSU Dominguez Hills club.  In 2018, the CNH Circle K District board named the Kiwanis Advisor of the Year award in his name (attached are a few pictures from the presentation at the Division 19 Kiwanis DCM). He also previously served as a Kiwanis Advisor for CAMS Key Club.

In 2006, he was selected to be the recipient of the Circle K International Circle of Service award. It's the highest honor a Kiwanis member can receive from Circle K International. Only 5 people from the Cal-Nev-Ha District have ever received this award.

John also served on the Kiwanis Governor’s Cabinet during the 1997-1998 administrative year and served as the District’s Resolutions Chairman from 1999-2001.

He was a Bronze Dunlap recipient with the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation and he was also a Friend of the Foundation.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2020 at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. The viewing will be from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and a graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life Reception will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Lomita-Harbor City Kiwanis Hall, 24822 Narbonne Avenue, Lomita, CA 90717.

Per John’s family, if you have pictures you want to share with his family and friends, please bring them to the reception at the Lomita-Harbor City Kiwanis Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation’s scholarship fund for Circle K in his name/honor, at 8360 Red Oak St., Suite 201, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730 or online – and choose the Service Leadership Program (SLP) Scholarships button.

Notes of condolence may be sent to:
