To Our Valued Business Customers:
We need your help. The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) has issued a statewide Flex Alert, a call for voluntary electricity conservation, for Thursday, October 1. Your conservation efforts were instrumental in helping us manage power during
extreme heat waves we had in August and early in September. We are requesting your help again, along with all of us doing our part.
Please help us to conserve power, particularly from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., by “pre-cooling” your business or lowering air conditioning thermostats before 3 p.m. and turning off unnecessary equipment.
Here are some steps customers can take before 3 p.m.:
-
Clean solar panels to generate more electricity.
-
Pre-cool your business by setting your thermostats to at least 74°F mid-day to afternoon and then raising them to at least 78°F or even 80°F in the late afternoon into
the evening.
-
Charge electric vehicles and batteries before 3 p.m. or after 10 p.m.
-
Charge mobile devices and laptops before 3 p.m. or after 10 p.m.
-
Run major equipment and operations in the morning hours or late at night.
See below for a list of other energy conservation tips and what SCE is doing to help.
Together, our conservation reduces stress on the statewide power grid and helps minimize the need for CAISO rotating power outages.
Also, SCE’s Summer Discount Plan
program provides incentives if you are able to reduce your energy use when the need arises. You can sign up to receive notifications on your smartphone about upcoming energy events so that you can be prepared and plan around them. Learn more about our

Thank you for your help and please stay safe in the heat.
Sincerely,

What can you do to help?
Business energy conservation tips:
-
Turn off unused office equipment

Minimize the use of lighting, including outdoor signage, where possible
-
Close window coverings to keep out direct sunlight during hot periods

Run ice machines at night and into the early afternoon to build up a large ice supply
-
Use night covers on refrigerated display cases
-
Turn off excess or unused escalators and elevators
-
Shift the time of dishwashing, waste processing, and laundry activities
-

What is SCE doing to help?
-
Our crews are prepared for the heatwave and will be available to make repairs as quickly and safely as possible.
