Dear Finance Committee members,

Mark and I have been working on the 2017-2018 District budget and I’d like to get some feedback from you regarding next year’s travel to Hawaii.

As I’m sure you all realize, the travel expense for our 2018 DCON will be significantly higher than in a year in which the convention is held in California or Nevada.  The questions I’m asking below will help Mark and I to finalize the draft budget for next year.

  1. In the past two fiscal years, we have averaged 29 Lt. Governors who vouched for travel expense to our DCON. In your opinion, how many Lt. Governors should we anticipate traveling to Hawaii in 2018 for the purpose of our budget?
  2. In the past two fiscal years, we have averaged 17 trustees who vouched for travel expense to DCON.  In your opinion, how many Trustees should we anticipate traveling to Hawaii in 2018 for the purpose of our budget?
  3. Current airfare to Kona is approximately $800 from Los Angeles for travel in the first week of August. What amount do you believe we should base our budget on?
  4. Because the ICON will be held in Las Vegas and our International Convention travel will be reduced as a result, do you think it would be prudent to use some fund from the International Convention travel fund for the DCON in Hawaii?  Doing this has been suggested as a way to reduce a per capita dues increase.

Any other thoughts or suggestions you have on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Pete

Sincerely,

Pete Horton
