Hi All!

Wanted to let you all know the Foundation will be hosting a service project at our booth this year. Details are still being finalized; however, in a nutshell, the Foundation will be encouraging clubs to bring used, unwanted and broken crayons to our booth where we will sort them by color and then donate them to an organization called The Crayon Initiative (http://thecrayoninitiative.org/).

The Crayon Initiative then melts down the crayons and then molds them into new, fat crayons that are flat on one side. The new crayons are then donated to children’s hospitals. (FYI: The crayons are fat so that all kiddos can hold and color with them and they are flat on one side so they don’t roll off of the bed tray. Pretty cool!)

Debbie is the lead on this project and is working with The Crayon Initiative to secure marketing materials and perhaps a representative to join us at DCON (the organization is in northern CA).

She’s also looking into maybe some type of competition between the clubs to encourage clubs to bring their crayons with them. Rest assured . . . even if not a single club participates, Debbie has us covered: She brought 17 boxes of crayons with her to the Board meeting! They are currently in the Foundation office and will need to be loaded onto the truck for Reno.

To help promote this project, the Board suggested a new convention ribbon. I believe there is a stock ribbon which reads, “I color outside the lines” which I’ve asked Karen to provide a quote for.

We’ll be promoting this service project in our Foundation news blasts and on Facebook.

Trina: Can you also promote in the District news blasts?

Tricia: Assuming we’ll have packet inserts again this year? If so, we’ll include something in the packets as well.

More to follow!
