Subject: Kiwanis Past Lt Governor John Stephenson Passes
1993-1994 Lt. Governors (bcc’d) and Kiwanis Leaders addressed:
It Is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of John Stephenson, Sr., 1993-1994 Lt. Governor for Division 33. John passed away on Friday, June 30. John was about to turn 90 on July 8. He was a member of Kiwanis for 60
years and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Kern Bakersfield since 1973. He also served as the club’s secretary and treasurer for several years and was very active on the division level as well. On the District level, he served as the Awards Chairman in
1997-1998, as Youth Services Chairman in 1998-1999 and 2001-2002 and as the KIWIN’S Administrator from 2002-2004. From the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation, he was awarded an Accelerate commemorative medallion from Division 33 club in 2016, a Distinguished Service
Award in 2004 and 2009 and was a Dunlap recipient in 1997.
From the Kiwanis Club of Kern, Bakersfield website (which John was the webmaster and also maintained the Division 33 website): 1993-94 Div. 33 SDLG John Stephenson (Kern) is the 1st recipient of the
"Stephenson Award of Excellence - Dedicated to all those who serve KIWIN'S with their hearts", and 2003-04 KIWIN'S Governor Vanessa Porter presented retiring District Administrator John with this award at the 28th District Convention in the Irvine Marriott
Hotel on April 17, 2004. (Middle) At the 87th Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha District Convention in Reno, NV on August 24, 2007, John was presented the
Bert Shoemaker Award by Chair Paul Formosa.
Funeral services for John will be on Friday, July 7 at 9:00 a.m. for the viewing and 10:00 for the services at Hillcrest Memorial Park Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd., Bakersfield, CA 93306. It is requested, in honor of John, to wear a Kiwanis pin or Kiwanis
medallion (Eliminate, Hixon, Dunlap or other).
