FYI – As some of you may or may not know, Emma and I are scheduled to go on vacation to Orlando in a few weeks (as long as it is safe to travel there!) and I reached out to the Florida District Office regarding bringing some supplies in our suitcases to donate to Hurricane Irma victims. Please see Melanie’s response below – and if you would like to contribute something we can take, I’d be happy to include it with our delivery.

Governor Pete – I wasn’t sure if you wanted to send something else out as a follow up to what we sent regarding Hurricane Harvey assistance, but below is information we could potentially distribute if you’d like.

Thanks,

Trina

Hi Trina,

Please accept my apology for the delay in getting back to you.  Our district office is still without power, water, and phones.  Thankfully, we have been told that we will be back up and running by Sunday at midnight.  So many have lost so much that anything will be helpful but here is a link that may provide you with some additional information.  http://www.flkiwanis.org/Page/38289

We will be distributing hygiene kits, necessities, and comfort items for children as we assess the hardest hit areas.  The children affected by Harvey and Irma must be terribly frightened and confused by all of this and your thoughtfulness in helping to make them more comfortable is appreciated!

If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to ask and, again, thank you for reaching out!

Melanie

Hi Melanie,

My name is Trina and I work for the Cal-Nev-Ha District office. First of all, I hope you are safe and staying out of harm’s way during the storms and that the destruction and devastation isn’t too bad!

I have been watching the storm very closely as my daughter and I have been scheduled to go to Orlando for vacation next month. I obviously wouldn’t come out if there is danger but I’m hoping things will smooth out by the time we are supposed to travel.

I know that even after the storm is over, the clean-up and repair will take time to recover from – and I’m hoping that if we do end up traveling as we originally scheduled that I would like to come visit the district office, meet you and provide some assistance from California! I should be able to pack a few suitcases of supplies to take on the plane and would love to help with what we can.

If you could let me know what assistance would be most beneficial, I’d be happy to help and try and get some other local Kiwanians to donate as well.

I’m sure you’ll set up some way to donate – as we have communicated that to our District regarding the T-O District and how we can assist them. Please let us know, as Kiwanians would much rather donate to fellow Kiwanians than go through other organizations.

Again, I hope all is well and take care and you and your fellow Floridians are in my thoughts! I look forward to hearing back from you and I know you probably have tons of other things to deal with at the moment so I’ll wait patiently for your response.

Thanks,

Trina Krider
